For the second time in two innings, the Sox had two runners on with less than two outs and failed to score. In the fourth, Manny Ramirez walked to lead off the inning and Trot Nixon singled, but Jered Weaver got Jason Varitek to fly out to center, struck out Mike Lowell with a nasty mixture of sliders and fastballs, then forced Coco Crisp to fly out to center.

Through four innings, Weaver has yet to record a ground out. Centerfielder Chone Figgins has eight putouts.
