Sox pass on Kip Wells
By Gordon Edes, Globe Staff
The Red Sox had been close to a deal with the Pirates for starting pitcher Kip Wells this afternoon, but ultimately passed because of Wells’s shaky medical history.
According to Foxsports.com, the Rangers instead traded for Wells.
Wells 1-5 with a 6.69 ERA in seven starts for the Pirates this season. In July, however, he has a much lower 3.16 ERA in four starts.
