Sox sign Carlos Pena

By Kelsie Smith, Globe Correspondent

Sources have confirmed that the Red Sox have signed first baseman Carlos Pena, who will report to Pawtucket tomorrow. Pena, a Haverhill native and Northeastern graduate, was the Texas Rangers No. 1 draft pick in 1998 and was Detroit's starting first baseman from 2003-2005.

Most recently Pena was playing for the Columbus Clippers, the Yankees Triple-A club. With Columbus, Pena was hitting .260 with 19 home runs and 66 RBI.
