Surgery for 'Tek
By Gordon Edes, Globe Staff
The Boston Globe has learned from team sources that catcher Jason Varitek will have arthroscopic surgery for cartilage damage on the left knee he injured in the second inning of Monday night's game.
It is expected to be announced before tonight's game.
Ken Huckaby will be activated from Pawtucket to serve as a backup catcher.
Varitek appeared to sustain the injury last night when he hit the second-base bag awkwardly while advancing from first to second on Crisp's single in the second inning.
