Red Sox manager Terry Francona remains hospitalized in Los Angeles with a foot infection, but said that the swelling has gone down considerably and that he might be out by the weekend sometime.
"It's frustrating but it could have been worse," said Francona, who said he's been taking IV and antibiotics for the infection. Francona thinks he got the infection from stepping on a pin on his bathroom floor. He had traveled to the West Coast to watch his daughter Leah play in an All-Star softball tournament, but never got to watch her.
Francona had to bow out of managing the Major League Baseball All-Stars vs. Japan in a best-of-five series in three cities in Japan. He was replaced by Bruce Bochy, who has resigned at Padres manager to take the San Francisco Giants job. Francona had replaced Ken Macha, who was fired by the Oakland A's.
