In my tribute to Mike Piazza in the final note of my Sunday baseball notes this morning I listed Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Mel Ott, Ted Williams, Stan Musial and Hank Aaron as those who are in the .300/400-HR Club. I left off a few others including Willie Mays and Jimmie Foxx as well as active players currently in the club including Manny Ramirez, Frank Thomas and Alex Rodriguez....

The week ahead:

The Red Sox will likely figure out their coaching situation. As Gordon Edes reported, Bill Haselman won't be back as the first base coach, and we might know this week whether Al Nipper will stay on as bullpen coach....

Also watch Keith Foulke. There are player and team options that must be exercised. Foulke is deciding whether to stay in Boston, pitch closer to his Arizona home or retire. With an off-season to heal his knees, Foulke may be ready to be a force again. We'll see if he agrees....

As of Saturday the Red Sox were still not one of the teams who had called about lefty Mark Mulder. The Orioles, Mets, Indians, Dodgers and Diamondbacks had. But the Sox were expected to have interest....

We're all waiting to see whether the Sox will submit a bid on Japanese righty Daisuke Matsuzaka. The deadline is Wednesday. Most of the teams involved have been very secretive concerning their interest.
