If the Rockies paid about $50 million of the remaining $90.1 million on Todd Helton's contract and took on veteran contracts like Mike Lowell, Julian Tavarez and Matt Clement (who has undergone major shoulder surgery and may not pitch until later in the year) would the Sox pull the trigger on a Helton deal?

Here's the Helton contract:

9 years, $141.5 million
2003-$10.6m
2004-$11.6m
2005-$12.6m
2006- $16.6m
2007-$16.6m
2008-$16.6m
2009-$16.6m
2010-$16.6m
2011- $19.1m
2012-Team option for $23m or a $4.6m buyout

*Could have become a free-agent after '06 season if he had notified the team on Nov. 15, 2006, but did not.
*Complete no trade clause.
