Josh Beckett looked good in seven innings of three-hit pitching against the Marlins today. Beckett struck out seven and walked three. He threw 92 pitches, 57 for strikes. The only run he surendered was unearned.

  • Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis was clipped in the lower leg by baserunner Alejandro De Aza on the final out of the fourth inning. Youkilis stayed in the game. Three innings later, Beckett hit De Aza in the ribs with a pitch and there was a little tension when De Aza stared out to the mound and Beckett starting walking toward the Marlins centerfielder.

  • David Ortiz cracked a two-run double in the third, his ninth and tenth RBI of the spring.

  • The Sox announced that Mike Timlin (disabled list, oblique muscle) will throw off a mound for the first time today.

  • The Sox and Marlins drew 8,048, the 60th consecutive sellout at City of Palms Park.

  • In addition to Dice K, Jonathan Papelbon will work tomorrow against the Reds. Tim Wakefield starts Tuesday at home against the Pirates.

  • Bill James was in the press box, reviewing his creation of the 2007 Red Sox.
