LAKELAND, Fla. - Josh Beckett left the game with two outs in the fourth, leading the Tigers 6-5, replaced by lefty Hideki Okajima.

Beckett didn't have the smoothest of outings.

He hit two batters - Gary Sheffield off the left shoulder (in the first inning) and Magglio Ordonez with a breaking pitch off the helmet (in the third inning). Ordonez was laying on the ground for a few minutes, but got back up and came out of the game. Beckett wasn't quite as sharp as his last outing when he thought he had an excellent breaking pitch.

Beckett allowed three unearned runs in the first inning thanks to back-to-back errors by second baseman Dustin (the scoreboard referred to him as 'Dusty') Pedroia.

For the Sox, Eric Hinske, playing first base and batting sixth, smacked a grand slam homer in the first inning when the Sox scored five runs.

Beckett received a visit from trainer Paul Lesard after he slipped and fell while trying to cover the plate. He was walking gingerly back to the mound, but told Lesard he was OK.
