Getting 'em back

By Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff

And the Red Sox answered...

With the pitch counts mounting for both starters, the Sox stuck together a walk to Julio Lugo, a single just off the glove of Derek Jeter by Kevin Youkilis, a solid single to right center by David Ortiz, a walk to Manny Ramirez, a bases-loaded walk to Mike Lowell, and a wild pitch, coming out with three runs. Two of those runs came in after the Sox had two outs.

But they weren't done. Jason Varitek took a walk, which loaded the bases again. And, in the process, knocked Andy Pettitte out of the game. Scott Proctor coming on in relief.

Oh, and the Sox are up, 5-4.
