No. 9 spark

By Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff

This just in from the Maniacal One, Chuck Waseleski:

The last Red Sox game in which both of the No. 9 hitters in the order homered was also against the Yankees, also at Yankee Stadium. It happened back on July 4, 2003, when Jason Varitek hit two of the Sox seven homers in a 10-3 win (Derek Lowe vs. David Wells). Karim Garcia did the honors for the Yankees.
