Still perfect
By Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff
With the 5-2 win tonight, Josh Beckett -- who pitched extremely well, allowing eight hits and no walks over eight innings -- becomes the first (and only) five-game winner in the major leagues. (That "perfect" label also goes for closer Jonathan Papelbon, who pushed his record to 17-for-17 in saves in April over his career.)
This is the third time a Red Sox pitcher has won five games in April.
The other two? One's in Cooperstown. One's likely headed there.
Babe Ruth and Pedro Martinez.
With that -- unless there's some major news coming out of the postgame clubhouse -- we'll see you in New York tomorrow after a Baltimore-to-Penn Station train ride.
