Beckett out with skin irritation

By Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff

It was just announced in the press box that Beckett was removed because of an avulsion of the middle finger on his (right) pitching hand.

According to Merriam-Webster online, avulsion is "a forcible separation or detachment as a tearing away of a body part accidentally or surgically."

They've also classified it as a skin irritation.
