Drew not starting
Red Sox manager Terry Francona provided an update on J.D. Drew’s back injury in an interview this afternoon on sports radio WEEI, saying that while Drew was feeling pretty good a day after slamming into the right field wall, he was going to stay away from starting him tonight.
Francona said that Wily Mo Pena would play right field, and that Drew could be available to pinch hit.
Drew rammed his back into the right field wall in an attempt to catch Brandon Inge’s home run in the third inning last night. He stayed in the game at the time, but left after the seventh inning with a bruised back.
