Good neighbor Alex

By Gordon Edes, Globe Staff

Alex Cora, who flied out to center to end the second (Sox 1, Tigers 0), is one of a handful of Sox players who live within walking distance of the ballpark. For the most part, he says, he doesn't get hassled on his way, though it's been a lot harder for him these days to pass unrecognized, the way he's been hitting. Cora, who has been here since July, 2005, feels comfortable here, and that makes a difference.
"I prepare myself,'' he said when talking about his success so fat this spring. "There are a lot of things that have lined up, not only baseball-wise. My family is a big part of it. We're settled here, and feeling preety good about it. It's home now.''
