Kiddie Francona

By Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff

In New York it was a pregame media session with an altar in the room. In Minneapolis it was a pregame media session in a playroom. Because the visiting manager's office is so small in the Metrodome, the small-ish group of media trailing Terry Francona moved over to a locker room with Golden Gophers' paraphernalia all over it.

Plus toys.

It appeared that it was the playroom that houses the kids of the Minnesota Twins. Or, at least, that was what we derived when Francona sat in front of a locker that had the names "Jasmily" and "Jasmine" Santana. Media relations guru Drew Merle pulled up a beanbag chair. Don Orsillo took the rocking chair. Tina Cervasio sat down at a kiddie table.

Francona's quip? "Which one of the kids is lifting the 15s?"

For some unknown reason, in addition to the toys, there was a set of 15-pound barbells.

Just another day at the office...
