No harm, no foul

By Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff

NEW YORK - One MLB official who saw the Alex Rodriguez slide saw nothing "cheap" or "dirty" about the eighth-inning slide in which A-Rod tried to break up a double-play grounder by Jorge Posada.

In fact, if anything the official thought Rodriguez was going in so hard he probably saved Pedroia by not going in shoulder first which might have sent Pedroia into orbit and landed somewhere in right-field.

The elbow?

"It's how the play developed. It happened fast. I don't believe there was any intent to harm Pedroia," said the official.
