Piazza injured

By Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff

Though Dan Johnson almost hit Mike (Mark?) Piazza while the former catcher was running the bases, he also managed to drive in Shannon Stewart with the tie-breaking run.

It's now 3-2, Oakland.

And Mike Lowell just plowed into Piazza on the basepaths. It was like watching a football play, total tackle. Piazza lay on the ground by third base clearly in pain, seemingly because of his shoulder. He walked off the field, though the guess here is he won't be back in this game.

On the play, Bobby Crosby sent a ball to third, where Lowell picked it up well behind the bag. To be able to make a play, Lowell lunged toward third base and collided with Piazza at the base. He was ruled out.

Piazza just disappeared down the tunnel.
