Sox up
By Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff
Well, J.D. Drew finally got a hit.
The $15 million a year man singled in Kevin Youkilis in the first inning to stake Tim Wakefield to a 1-0 lead. We're now in the bottom of the second inning.
Drew had been on a horrific run of only eight hits in his last 57 at-bats - a .140 average over his last 17 games.
The hit came with two outs. Youkilis had singled and Manny Ramirez also singled against Tigers starter Justin Verlander (3-1, 2.83 ERA).
Wakefield has allowed one hit - a second-ining single by Pudge Rodriguez with two outs in the second inning. Wakefield also tossed a wild pitch but struck out Craig Monroe to end the inning.
