The big lead
By Steve Silva, Boston.com Staff
A couple of interesting items, courtesy of today's game notes from the Red Sox media relations folks:
The Red Sox' lead of six games in the AL East is the largest advantage in team history after the first 30 games of a season. The next closest was a 5 1/2 game lead after the first 30 games of the pennant winning 1946 season.
In other Sox team record news, tonight's starter Josh Beckett will attempt to become just the sixth pitcher in Red Sox history to get a win in his first seven starts in a season. Babe Ruth and Dave Ferriss are tied with a team-record eight straight wins to start a season.
