Two bags on an infield out

By Gordon Edes, Globe Staff

Here's a play you don't see every day....Coco Crisp went from first to third on a ground ball to short.

Holy Remdawg! How'd that happen?

Tigers were overshifted with Papi at the dish. Ortiz hits a ground ball to SS Carlos Guillen, who was playing on the right side. He goes to tag Crisp, who rolls under the tag, then flips to first to get Ortiz, as Crisp picks himself up and goes to second. The third baseman, Brandon Inge, had covered second, in case Guillen had elected to flip there for the force.

While Guillen was yakkin' with 2B umpire Rob Drake about the call, Crisp n oticed third base was unoccupied and jogged down unchallenged. He then scored when Manny singled to center. Kevin Youkilis followed with another base hit--he's now hit in 10 straight, a career best--but Mike Lowell popped out to leave two on.

Sox 1, Tabbies 0, top of 2
