NEW YORK - Andy Pettitte threw his first pitch to Julio Lugo at 7:09 p.m. It's 68 degrees here.
A few things:
1. Josh Beckett threw five innings in the bullpen with a band-aid on his middle finger. He'll throw a side session Saturday.
2. According to Gordon Edes, umpire Joe West summoned both Terry Francona and Joe Torre for a meeting before the game. Francona would not reveal what it was about. Speculation centered around the Alex Rodriguez slide into Dustin Pedroia in the 8th inning Tuesday night, but according to umpire boss Mike Port, he thought the discussion centered around pace of game which umpires discuss with managers at times during series.
3. Jon Lester pitches for Pawtucket tomorrow night in Syracuse.
4. J.D. Drew had the option of playing or sitting out against Pettitte, and elected to sit it out despite being 6-for-14 with two homers and two RBI against the lefty Pettitte.
5. Coco Crisp was just caught stealing 1-3-4. Actually it was a nice pick-off by Pettitte who might have the best move in the game. Question is was he tagged? Coco thought no.
6. I remember Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher walking out on the media in the middle of a press conference when a cell phone went off. Terry Francona is growing more impatient with it. As he was about to answer a question yesterday one went off. Francona didn't walk out, but it's becoming an issue.
