Busy Rays
ST. PETERSBURG - The Devil Rays have been busy off the field but look the same on it. Rhode Island native Dan Wheeler will join the team tomomorrow from Houston where he was trade for infielder Ty Wigginton a few hours ago.
Wiggington addressed the media at the start of the game and said he was surprised by Houston's interest since he had not heard them mentioned in rumors . GM Andrew Friedman said he had begun to focus on Houston the last two days after some other things fell through. The Yankees would not give up Scott Proctor. The Red Sox had expressed interest but were not convinced Wigginton could help them in the outfield.
The Sox lead it here 3-0 after three innings.
Jason Varitek knocked in a run in a two-run second inning where Julio Lugo also walked with the bases loaded against James Shield. In the third J.D. Drew knocked in David Ortiz (double) with a single.
Jon Lester is pitching well again. One hit through three.
