Good work for Timlin
Mike Timlin could re-invent himself as a key part of the Sox bullpen if he continues to pitch well.
He entered this 7-3 game in the sixth to retire Matt Diaz for the final out of the sixth in relief of Kason Gabbard. It's obvious his sinking fastball is working. He retired Diaz with a ground ball out in the sixth. In the seventh he retired the first two batters on ground ball outs before allowing a double to Travis Metcalf. He was replaced by Javier Lopez with Kenny Lofton coming up.
Timlin, who has had bouts of tendinitis and a tired arm all season, was throwing his cut fastball in the 88-90 mph range which is good enough.
After Eric Hinske's bases-loaded triple in the fifth, the Sox did not score in the sixth.
