By Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff

ST. PETERSBURG - This has basically been a home game with a sellout of more than 36,000, majority of whom are Red Sox fans. It's nosier here than any Fenway Park home game for the Red Sox.

Jon Lester has gone 6-2/3 innings, allowed four runs, two homers in the 7th. he threw 97 pitches.

He left with a 5-4 lead.

The Sox struck for two runs in the top of the 7th. David Ortiz stroked a single to drive in Julio Lugo (infield hit) while Manny Ramirez' sac fly accounted for the fifth run.

Lester allowed solo homers to Jonny Gomes and Josh Paul in the 7th.
