Papi's back
David Ortiz is back in the Red Sox lineup tonight. And the rest of the starting nine will have a bit of a different look.
In his weekly appearance on sports radio WEEI’s Dale and Holley show, Red Sox manager Terry Francona said that Ortiz would be the designated hitter tonight, which will put Manny Ramirez back in left field.
Ortiz had missed four games while resting his sore shoulder, which he hurt sliding head first into second base last Friday night against the White Sox.
With righthanded hitters only batting .245 off the Indians’ Fausto Carmona this season, Francona has shuffled the lineup for tonight’s game. Eric Hinske will start at first base, Kevin Youkilis moves over to third base, and Alex Cora gets the start at shortstop as Mike Lowell and Julio Lugo will get the night off.
Francona said he anticipates arriving in Tampa about 3 or 4 a.m. after tomorrow night’s game in Cleveland and is planning accordingly.
“Being able to mix and match and pick your nights, this is really one of the good things about our ballclub is the depth that we have and guys that will step in, we’ll still have a solid lineup out there tonight,” Francona said in his radio interview. “Just trying to get everybody games and knowing that we’re going to get into Tampa late and everything, just trying to pick night where we can send the most balanced lineup out there.”
