Sox win again

By Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff

Some impressive end-of-the-bullpen work by Manny Delcarmen and Jonathan Papelbon, a little power by Mike Lowell (two-run homer) and clutch hitting by Doug Mirabelli (two-run single), Jacoby Ellsbury (RBI single) and J.D. Drew (RBI single) propelled the Sox to a 7-5 win on the 4th of July at Fenway.

The Sox have now taken two straight from the Rays, who have lost 10 straight. Tim Wakefield (9-8) got the win.

Mirabelli's two-run single to right in the fourth came on a 1-2 pitch and capped a three-run inning. It also broke an 0-for-10 slide.

The Sox won by resting Manny Ramirez, Kevin Youkilis, Dustin Pedroia and Jason Varitek.

David Ortiz DH'd. No, his legs did not crumble into a million pieces and actually ran very well around the bases.
