15 for Beckett
Josh Beckett couldn't quite finish off a complete game win over the Orioles, but he did become the first 15-game winner in the major leagues this season. Not too shabby.
He cranked out a 97 mile per hour fastball to strike out Nick Markakis looking with the second out of the inning, then (with just about the entire crowd on its feet) Miguel Tejada singled to left field right by Mike Lowell to end the shutout. Kevin Millar's double scored Tejada, which ended Beckett's afternoon. The pitcher wasn't exactly happy about the development, to say the least.
Manny Delcarmen couldn't put away Aubrey Huff (theme lately?), so Jonathan Papelbon got the call for Melvin Mora. And got him to pop to second base.
Game over, 6-2 for the Sox.
