The Globe’s Gordon Edes called in a quick update from Fenway Park. Here are a few tidbits. Amalie Benjamin will check in with more in a bit.

  • Jacoby Ellsbury will indeed be activated and be in the lineup for tonight’s second game against the Angels. He will lead off and play center field.

  • Jason Varitek is penciled in to catch. Doug Mirabelli, who was injured this afternoon, was wearing a boot on his right foot. The Sox are flying in minor league catcher Kevin Cash from Ottawa, but it’s unclear whether he’ll make it to Fenway in time for the 7 p.m. start. No announcement about whether Mirabelli would be put on the disabled list has been made.

  • Theo Epstein is going to meet with the media at 6 p.m.
