Gone!
Well, that might settle the nerves of Clay Buchholz just a little.
David Ortiz gave him the lead with a home run, his 20th of the year, giving him six consecutive 20-homer seasons. The ball tucked itself into the seats by the Pesky Pole in right field. It also scored Dustin Pedroia from second (he doubled to the right field corner).
Somehow Manny Ramirez just got one bag out of a drive between left and center, though he came around to score on a ball off the Wall in center that Reggie Willits wasn't exactly able to corral, going for a triple for J.D. Drew.
As a point of interest, the first five batters for the Red Sox hit for the cycle. Pedroia, double. Ortiz, home run. Ramirez, single. Drew, triple.
With Mike Lowell's bloop single into left, Drew scored, bringing the score to 4-1. Not starting off as a good day for John Lackey, who came in with a 15-6 record and a 3.07 ERA.
