Lowell, Ortiz share honors
David Ortiz and Mike Lowell, two of the Red Sox hottest hitters of late, have been selected as the American League co-players of the week.
Big Papi batted .478 on the week with two doubles, a triple, three homers, and eight RBIs. He also slugged 1.043 and had 11 runs scored and 24 total bases. It is Ortiz's fourth A.L. weekly award.
Lowell batted .500 (14-28) with three doubles, a homer, 11 RBIs, and a .714 slugging percentage while hitting safely in all seven games last week. It marks the third time that Lowell has been selected as a player of the week in his career, the first in the AL.
This is only the second time ever that a pair of Red Sox have shared AL weekly honors. Pedro Martinez and Trot Nixon were co-winners of the award for the week ending July 7, 2002.
Material from the Red Sox media relations department was used in this report.
