More Carter stuff

By Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff

ST. PETE - More information on Chris Carter, whom the Red Sox acquired today as the player to be named later in the Wily Mo Pena deal.

  • He was a straight-A student at DeLaSalle High in Concord, Calif. and did very well academically at Stanford.

  • He is a better first baseman than left fielder.

  • He had surgery to remove his hamate bone in his right hand last year.

  • Good power. Hit .301 with 19 homers and 97 homers at Tucson last year and appeared to repeat a similar season this year .324, 18-84 with 163 hits.

  • Does not have great speed.
