O's get two more
By Daniel Malloy, Globe Correspondent
The Orioles are getting a lot of hard-hit balls off of Julian Tavarez tonight. After a two-out single by Jay Gibbons, No. 9 hitter Chris Gomez hit a shot off the top of the Wall, scoring Gibbons. The relay from Julio Lugo was a little late and despite a great block by Jason Varitek, Gibbons was able to get through him to the plate before the ball arrived.
The next batter was Brian Roberts, who lined a double to left that plated Gomez. Manny Ramirez broke late on the ball, and it ricocheted off his glove as he made a leaping attempt for it. But it was still scored a double. Corey Patterson flew out to right to end the inning, and the O's lead it, 3-0, heading to the bottom of the second.
