Walking home

By Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff

Josh Beckett got the first two outs of the first inning easily, before allowing a double to right field by A.J. Pierzynski. He followed that by completely forgetting the strike zone, walking three straight batters (Paul Konerko, Darin Erstad, Jermaine Dye) to walk in a run.

Dye's walk came on just four pitches.

This isn't quite an auspicious start to the game, especially one that most (probably) are hoping goes quickly to get as much of it in as possible before the skies open up.
