Whole lotta love for Lester
The ovation began in the bleachers and made its way to the grandstand, then the box seats behind the dugouts, as Jon Lester emerged from the bullpen and made his way to the Sox dugout prior to the start of last night's game.
His first pitch of the night was a ball, and Lester fell behind Akinori Iwamura, 3 and 0. A called strike and a foul ball, and it was 3 and 2 but Lester walked him. He came back, however, to strike out Carl Crawford on three pitches, Crawford chasing an 0 and 2 curveball for strike 3, and K'd BJ Upton looking on a 2-and-2 fastball. Carlos Pena flied to right to end the inning.
The Sox did not score in the first despite a one-out double by Dustin Pedroia and a two-out walk to Manny. Mike Lowell swung and missed at a third strike that got away from Josh Paul, but Lowell was thrown out at first
