Timlin gets out of a jam

By Daniel Malloy, Globe Correspondent

Entering the bottom of the eighth here at Fenway, this game dragging on interminably, and the score remains 13-10. Hideki Okajima allowed a single to Matt Stairs then struck out Alex Rios, after which Terry Francona summoned Mike Timlin. Appearance No. 1001 went a little smoother than the last debacle, and Timlin escaped without allowing a run -- though he did allow three scorched balls. The first was a lineout to third by Frank Thomas, the second a double off the Wall by Troy Glaus, and the third was a comebacker that Timlin was able to deftly deflect away from his, er, cup region. He then made a nice play to first to end the inning.
