A's take early lead

Posted by Daniel Malloy, Globe Correspondent September 25, 2007 07:18 PM

First baseman Daric Barton, a September call-up, hit his third career major league homer in the first on a 2-2 offering over the middle of the plate from Curt Schilling, a solo shot over the Oakland bullpen. He was the only batter in the inning to reach base, and Big Schill threw 23 pitches in the first. Trivia note: Barton's first major league homer came Sept. 14 off of former Red Sox pitcher Kason Gabbard, now with Texas. It's 1-0 A's as we enter the bottom of the first.
