Blue Jays 2, Sox 0

By Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff

For those of you who missed it -- or are relying on the blog for your news -- Tim Wakefield gave up a first-inning, two-run homer to Frank Thomas to bring the score to 2-0. (Vernon Wells was on base after being walked.)

The roof is open at Rogers Centre and, for that, you can definitely blame Wakefield. No matter how cold it gets, there was no way the Blue Jays were going to close the roof for a pitcher who dominates in domes. Too bad for the fans. (And for us poor sportswriters! OK, I'm sure you don't feel too bad for us.)

It's relatively empty here, with a large percentage of Red Sox fans as usual. I ran back to my hotel room to get a hoodie before first pitch and there were quite a few people swarming the box office, many of them in Sox gear. But that, at this point, is to be expected.
