Gagne's progress

By Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff

Though manager Terry Francona said that Eric Gagne might be able to throw off a mound yesterday, or today, Gagne still hasn't progressed to that point. He did, however, say that he might be there tomorrow.

He did throw off flat ground and played long toss this afternoon. Gagne last pitched on August 26 in Chicago.

"I want to be ready for the playoffs," Gagne said. "I want to contribute down the stretch. But I just want to be healthy. I want to go out there and be able to perform and help the guy. I feel bad because we're one man short out there. We've got a lot of bodies, but still, I'd like to be out there when it's my innings to do it. I want to be 100 percent. I want to make sure I'm not going out there and getting sore again."
