Ortiz returns
He had just a cameo appearance on Monday night in the Red Sox opening game of the three-game series against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, grounding out in a ninth-inning pinch-hit at-bat but last night, slugger David Ortiz was back at designated hitter.
Ortiz, who has been bothered by torn meniscus in his right knee that dates back to June of 2006 and plans to have it surgically repaired in the offseason, was scheduled to have Monday off anyway to rest but the brief break came at the perfect time.
Julio Lugo, who served as DH Monday night and was 1 for 4 in Boston's 1-0 loss, was back at shortstop Tuesday night, batting eighth.
