Red Sox take the lead
Boston staged a remarkable rally in the bottom of the sixth inning, tying the game and then overtaking the Devil Rays.
Dustin Pedroia started it off, hitting a home run into the Monster seats to make it 9-9. David Ortiz singled, which prompted a change in pitchers - from Jon Switzer to Grant Balfour. Unfortunately for Balfour, he didn't get a soul out.
Mike Lowell singled off the left-field scoreboard, advancing Ortiz to second. J.D. Drew walked, loading the bases. Kevin Youkilis, who was hitless to this point, drilled a bases-clearing triple low off the wall in center field to put the Red Sox ahead, 12-9.
Coco Crisp doubled up the first-base line to score Youkilis, increasing the lead to 13-9. That was all for Balfour, who was replaced by righthander Juan Salas. The first batter Salas faced - Julio Lugo - hit a sacrifice fly to center, moving Crisp to third.
With two out, Jacoby Ellsbury singled in Crisp with the Sox' 14th run. Pedroia, who started all the action, came up again in the bottom of the sixth and popped to first base, ending the inning.
