All, but one

Posted by Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff October 24, 2007 10:43 PM

It's only the fifth inning, but already every member of the Red Sox lineup (save Jacoby Ellsbury) has a hit tonight now that Mike Lowell doubled (the eighth of the game for the Sox).

That was followed by a walk to Jason Varitek, and a single off the glove of shortstop Troy Tulowitzki by J.D. Drew. The score is now 10-1, the Red Sox are about to send their 10th man of the fifth inning to the plate in Julio Lugo, and Ryan Speier in on the mound in relief of Franklin Morales.

The eight doubles for the Red Sox tie the single-game World Series record. It has been accomplished by the White Sox vs. the Cubs in 1906 and by Pittsburgh vs. Washington in 1925.
