Gagne files for free agency
Closer Eric Gagne, a profound disappointment after being acquired at the trading deadline by the Sox, was the only Sox player who filed for free agency today. Previously, Curt Schilling, Bobby Kielty, Eric Hinske and Matt Clement filed.
The Sox gave up left-hander Kason Gabbard, who is tentatively pencilled into the Rangers rotation next season after going 2-1 with a 5.58 ERA, and outfielder David Murphy, who exceeded expectations by batting .340 with 2 home runs and 14 RBIs in 43 games with the Rangers and figures to compete for a roster spot in Texas in 2008.
