Sox score first

Posted by Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff October 27, 2007 09:20 PM

As Dustin Pedroia has apparently added speed to his game over the past 24 hours...

After Jacoby Ellsbury took a chance and headed to second base, where he was nearly cut down by a strong throw from Matt Holiday in left, on a double to lead off the first inning, Pedroia bunted toward the pitcher. But catcher Yorvit Torrealba picked up the ball, and threw it high to first baseman Todd Helton, causing him to come off the bag.

Instead of an error for Torrealba, Pedroia was awarded a hit.

And David Ortiz followed that with a run-scoring double to right field that brought the score to 1-0 in support of Daisuke Matsuzaka.
