Lowell still awaits 4-year offer

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff November 19, 2007 12:41 AM

Another weekend has passed with no resolution to the Mike Lowell saga.

There is the possibility, according to a major league source, that Lowell could have one 4-year offer in his back pocket from an undisclosed team that has managed to keep their interest amazingly quiet. The suspects are the LA Dodgers or the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Red Sox have held their ground on a 3-year deal and will likely continue to do so. Having the weekend to think on it, Lowell could decide to end the suspense or he might drag it out even longer to let the market play out more and see where Marlins third baseman Miguel Cabrera winds up. That could be a major piece to sorting out which teams might pursue Lowell if he's still on the open market.
