Matsuzaka: 'Not up to my standards'

Red Sox righthander Daisuke Matsuzaka arrived at Tokyo's Narita airport earlier today and took some questions from a group of reporters at the scene.

The Globe's Daigo Fujiwara provides the following translation of the Q&A session:

Q: What are your thoughts about the season?

Matsuzaka: "As a team, [winning the World Series] was the best. But as for personal accomplishment, it was not up to my standards. I feel that my command was something I need to improve."

Q: How do you feel about next season?

Matsuzaka: "I would like to repeat [the championship] as a team and improve my results."

Q: Your wife's due date is close to the opening day in Japan, what are your thoughts?

Matsuzaka: "I would like to come to Japan for it and I'm planning on the trip. I would also definitely like to attend the birth. I am hoping that the baby arrives in time and everything will fall into place. That's what I hope."

Q: What is your plan while in Japan?

Matsuzaka: "I need to rest up. So I'm planning to rest this week and start working out in December. The start of my work out will be a little later than last year."
