Clemens fumbles on why he retained McNamee

Posted by Gordon Edes, Globe Staff February 13, 2008 12:51 PM

After Clemens's lawyers accused Waxman of "innuendo" for asking Clemens why he asked his former nanny to come to his home last Sunday before congressional investigators talked to her, Clemens struggled to come up with an answer to Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D., D.C.), who enumerated the things McNamee did--like giving Debbie Clemens HGH, and giving him an amphetamine, etc.--and asked why Clemens still kept him in his employ.
"I'm a forgiving person,'' Clemens finally managed.
Said Norton: "I'm sure he's going to heaven.''
The committee took a 15-minute recess.

  1. Dan Burton's behavior was disgraceful. He made no effort to get to the truth. Considering his past, it was not a surprise.

  1. This episode yesterday is one major reason the American people despise Congress. Asking Clemens what uniform he is going to wear going into the Hall of Fame? Pandering of the highest, not doing the job they were sent to Washington for, getting down to the truth. Each Republican should be sent a bill for wasting our tax payer money on that sham yesterday.
