Clemens: Pettitte "misremembers"

Posted by Gordon Edes, Globe Staff February 13, 2008 11:01 AM

Under persistent questioning by Rep. Elijah Cummings, (D., Md.), who reminded Clemens that he was under oath, the pitcher insisted that he never admitted to Pettitte he used HGH, that Pettitte "misheard" and "misremembered." Clemens said Pettitte could have been referring to a conversation he had with his teammate about the stimulant "ephedra.''
Clemens called Pettitte "a very honest fellow," but continued to repeat that Pettitte misheard. He also said he doesn't remember having a conversation with Pettitte in which the pitcher asked Clemens what he would say if asked about his HGH use.

  1. Clemens is now officially the most selfish egotistical jerk this world has ever seen. With complete disregard for his friend Andy Pettite, Roger has put his legacy ahead of Andy’s friendship, his upcoming season, and the difficult decision to tell the truth. Instead of making things easier for Andy, he is going to take him down with Mac, the players Association, and everyone else he pointed his chubby little fingers at. Sad. Very sad. Burning everyone close to you, including your own wife, is 100 times more despicable than using steroids in baseball. You can somehow justify using drugs to make you better at your job. However, lying and throwing your trainer, friend, wife, and agent under the bus for the sake of saving your own butt is not excusable. I would have voted for Roger to be in the Hall prior to this hearing.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching the old Republicans siding with Roger. I guess if you are dumb enough, or corrupt enough to follow George W, Roger seems like an alter boy. Way to go Washington!

  1. William Clay (D., Mo.) got all starry-eyed during his questioning of Clemens, asking him if he knew what uniform he'd be wearing to the Hall of Fame.

Is he a republican too??? Wake the F up people, stop blaming them for everything. Look at our state, how great it is with Devil and all the other Libs in office.

Tom PH you must have only read one piece of the article, I guaruntee you did NOT watch as you would have seen 70% valid questions and statements, the remaining 30 idiodic comments were spread evenly along the partison lines.

    TAKE THE BLINDERS OFF!!

  1. Tom PH... please don't tell me you only saw one politician, the one idiot that called Mac a lier?!?!?! Seriously, how can you turn this into your own political rant?

This has nothing to do with partisanship.

If you recall Eddie Bernice Johnson telling Palmeiro he was a "role model" for the cuban community.

I agree, that Burton is a moron, almost as big as Clemens. I've never seen someone burn so many bridges in that amount of time. He's on his own island now.

  1. Is it just me, or does Clemens talk like a pouty 5th grader when asked questions about his use of steroids etc. His over the top denials are showing his obvious guilt. His overcompansation is cracking me up....what a child.
If he was a man, he would admit his screw ups and say that he hopes this doesn't reflect upon his induction into the HOF but would also understand if it did.

Also, I'm getting tired of hearing people say they would still elect him into the HOF since much of his success was before the enhancements. What kind of crap is that..?...this goes to the integrity of the game of which he has failed. I don't hear people say that about Pete Rose. Here's a guy that was completely done w/his playing career when he bet on baseball but he is some kind of leper.

It's all the same, you compromise the integrity of the game at any point and you go down or should go down like Marion Jones and Ben Johnson....be accountable and own your shit. Then let the chips fall where they may.
