Colon arrives

Posted by Gordon Edes, Globe Staff February 26, 2008 12:26 PM

Bartolo ColonFORT MYERS, Fla. -- Newly signed Red Sox pitcher Bartolo Colon (pictured) arrived at the Sox facilities in Fort Myers today at 12:05 p.m., driving a maroon Mercedes and carrying his gear in an Angels bag.

He is not planning to talk to the media today, but will address reporters tomorrow.

Also today
The Sox worked on cutoff drills and pop fly coverage during today's workout in Fort Myers.

The most interesting tidbit of the day came from Sox slugger David Ortiz. I was standing behind the backstop watching Clay Buchholz pitch, and Ortiz walked past me and joked, "What are you scouting now?" After he took some swings against Buchholz, I asked him what my Buchholz scouting report should say, and he responded, "Cy Young Award winner, one of these days."

  1. Might be a good idea to get Bartolo a new duffle bag.

  1. If only he was a Lefty - with those 2 left arms - he could hold the ball in one and the rosin bag in the other and ...

  1. Is it just me, or does that picture indicate that Colon has three hands? Must be a secret weapon Theo won't talk about....

  1. C'mon Edes......Colon needs to drop at least 45 pounds. No excuse for an "athlete" to show up looking like Fat Albert.

  1. If you look at the shadows, there's someone standing behind Colon that he's blocking out.

Our big boy is just THAT mASSive.

  1. I think this Bartolo Colon ate a different Bartolo Colon which in turn caused this Bartolo Colon to grow out one of the original Colon's arms as a third appendage, which could potentially make for quite the pickoff move. The flip side is that his girth might cause the dirt mound beneath him to collapse. Perhaps some of that 1.25m can get spent on Weight Watchers? Or lipo?

  1. yeah - well I'd say they got a bargain. He can throw with 2 days rest on each arm if he staggers things right

  1. OK, if you look carefully between his legs, you'll see a person behind him, which accounts for his second left arm. More disconcerting is the fact that he's so fat, you can't see any of this person.
