Donnelly signs with Tribe

Brendan Donnelly, who at one time thought he'd be back with the Sox this season while undergoing rehab after Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery, instead has signed a minor-league deal with the Indians, with an invitation to big-league camp.
Donnelly, 36, is expected to miss at least the first few months of the season.
Donnelly, whose best seasons were with the Angels, was a bit of a freak physically. He admitted that he'd pitched at least the last three seasons without a ligament in the elbow. His name came up in the Mitchell report--he was said to have purchased steroids from Mets clubhouse attendant Kirk Radomski, which he later vehemently denied.
Donnelly, whose violent pitching motion suggested he'd come to the dugout and kick your butt if you dared get a hit off him, was well-liked in the Sox clubhouse, an earthy veteran who loved the game and had a million stories, which you'd expect from a guy who made it to the bigs after a decade in the minor leagues, including a short stint in 1999 with independent Nashua.
